When I got ready to make over the shoulder technique vidoes I naturally went searching for a video to show me how. I couldn’t find one . So after only 2 videos while I am still green, still new and can appreciate the fear of taking the plunge I made a video hoping it will help others.
What I learned as I made my first video was:
a. that I was assuming it was harder than what it was
b. that I was assuming there was a lot more to it than what it was
c. that I assumed you needed to be more professional & know more
d. tha I assumed you needed to be a technological wizard
e. that you do not need some large dedicated space
f. that you do not need all sorts of professional lighting (unless the room you are filming is is unnaturally dark)
g. that you don’t need elaborate scripts – you just need to be you and love what you are showing/teaching/doing.
But what I really learned is that as with anything I have ever done as a Stampin’UP! demonstator – you learn as you go and you have to start somewhere.
Do you need to start knowing it all?? No.
An awesome quote I shared recently with my team of RemARKable Stampers says ” Say Yes and you will figure it out afterwards”
So let’s take a look at how easy the process can be:
My Equipment
IPAD
MEMORIES IPAD CASE
TRIPOD
CAMSTASIA
YOU TUBE
My New Stand Arrived after I made the video. I LOVE IT – The actual product is below. The Ipad Holder it comes with is different than the one I show in the video. I can see where I will use both depending on what, where I am making videos. Love it.
Here is a look at the equipment – I am sure there may be others out there – thanks to the internet it is easier than ever to price shop and compare other models, reviews etc. Pick what works for you and your budget.
Memories iPad Case – Mounts ipad on a tripod – Add zoom lens, mics, and more! – Hard cover protects back of iPad 2/3/4
**Makayama Movie Mount for iPad 2 and new iPad (appears to be same thing – less costly)
And here are the two new stands/clips I invested in to replace the traditional camera tripod I used for the first 2 videos. No more legs to deal.
Music Microphone Stand Mount for Apple iPad Mini / iPad / iPad 2 / iPad 3 / iPad 4th Gen – this is one of the two I ordered it’s basically a c clamp which is going to allow me to use an solid, stable surface, pole, etc.
PYLE-PRO PMKSPAD1 Multimedia Microphone Stand With Adapter for iPad 2 (Adjustable for Compatibility w/iPad 1)
There you have it. Now go make a video showcasing something you have created, a favorite product, a favorite color, a favorite card. There is no end to what you can create with Stampin’UP! Product.
Oh my gosh, does this mean I can’t use my laptop to make a video??? Seriously, I thought I could. Bless your heart Janet for finally giving it up on how to make a video. I, too, have been searching for a video on how to make a video and came up with nadda!!! You would think it was some top secret document that is given out only to people with clearance from the Secret Service.
I am sure there is a way to use your laptop. i use mine for facetime videos and screen capture videos. But I was unsuccessful using mine with any kind of camera for over the shoulder videos. I just couldn’t get it to work. So since I had an ipad I went that route. I know many who are also using their smartphones to do their videos.
You are a blessing to us all, Janet. Thank you.
thank you
Hi Janet,
First off let me tell you I love all your videos. This one really hits the nail on the head. I can see I am not the only one who has been looking for videos on how to record a tut. May I ask where you got your new stand?. I especially love the Camtasia and you tube modifs that can be done. The legs of my tripod are always in the way, so I make videos and get none of them published as I don’t like the finished product. -tripod in the way-bloopers -something on the table or behind me that I don’t want to see (part of me hihi)
So thanks again. Jeannette
thank you
Thank you so much Janet. I have made videos with other cameras, and now have invested in a camcorder which I am trying to set up now. I haven’t started due to the reasons you so kindly outlined. Now I will give the camcorder a try. Thanks for giving me the impetus I needed.
Can’t wait to see what you do. Taking the first step is huge. Way to go!
Thanks, Janet. You are so gracious to share so much with us.
thank you
