Since I am not really a cook I decided to give the cookie press stamps a go with an assortment of clays. These no calorie clay cookies are destined to become ornaments and package ties. Can’t wait to dress them up with glimmer paper, ribbon, shimmer paint, glitter and more.
Below you will see some side by side comparisons of an assortment of clays available on the market. I found it rewarding to be able to purchase a non stick rolling pin, wax paper and biscuit cutters for my craft room not the kitchen!
The four clays I compared include Crayola’s Model Magic, Delight, Sculpey and Creative Paperclay all available at various craft stores and in various craft departments at bigger stores.
Crayola Model Magic was my favorite for ease in kneading, easiest to add color to without it getting sticky and it’s overall compatibility with our cookie press and the fact it could air dry therefor no oven needed. Which is great since there isn’t one in my craft room and I was too lazy to run up and down the stairs.
The Delight brand was my favorite for it’s whitest of the whites when not adding color.
Paperclay became pretty sticky when I tried to add reinkers and sculpey can be stiff and difficult to knead. Not for those with arthritis or carpal tunnel.
To add color I simply kept adding drops of reinker and kneading the clay until I had the desired color. The ornaments below used Pool Party, Crumb Cake and Pretty in Pink Reinkers. They do dry a little (just a little) darker than they look while you are working with them.
For the heart shaped clay ornaments -when you press the image into the clay it leaves a “ring” that you can smooth with your fingers before cutting it with a heart shaped cookie cutter.

I so love your idea!!! They would be cute on a small
ornament tree with ribbons or added to a package
with a gift tag.
Love your talent. It’s been a pleasure doing business with you also.

Thank you so much for the information! This looks like fun. And would be a good project for the kids at their Christmas parties held at school. Easy and not to expensive. Do you think that you could still use the press with cookie dough?or should you have one for each?
Thanks!!
Janet, Thank you for the great idea!! I am now teaching preschool, 4 yr olds, who love to get messy and craft with me!! I am definately going to do this for Dec ornaments!! Have a great evening!
Keep coming up with fantastic ideas!

This is so clever & gives such beautiful results. I especially love that your tinted the clay with reinker. Thank you so much for sharing all your tricks!
